Ski Season Co-Hosting in Utah: List Before the Snow Flies
Winter is the main event for a rental car in Utah. From mid-December through February, guests fly into Salt Lake City headed for Alta, Snowbird, Brighton, Solitude, Park City, and Deer Valley — and they rent AWD SUVs to get there. Driver Valley co-hosts more than 85 cars from our lot by SLC airport, and ski season is when the right car earns its year. If your car is going to work this winter, November is when it needs to be listed.
What ski guests actually rent
Ski traffic is specific: AWD or 4WD, room for gear, and a car that is legal for the canyons on a storm day. Utah's traction law can restrict canyon roads to AWD/4WD or chained vehicles when it snows — our guide to Utah's traction law and rental cars explains what guests are up against. Midsize and three-row SUVs lead, crossovers are close behind, and minivans quietly clean up with groups and families. Our rundown of the best cars for Turo in Utah is mostly a list of what skiers ask for.
The season's peaks
- The holiday stretch — the days around Christmas through the first days of January are the richest rental window of the Utah year
- Sundance, late January — festival demand pours into Park City and fills cars across the valley
- February weekends — Presidents Day and peak-snow weeks keep rates strong well past the holidays
Our pricing follows that calendar on both channels — Turo and direct bookings on drivervalley.com — rising into the peaks instead of sitting at a flat rate while every AWD car in the valley books out. That is the work of a co-host, and it is the difference between a car that catches ski season and one that watches it.
Why you list in November, not January
Onboarding is not instant: the car gets inspected, photographed, listed, and priced, and the calendar has to be open when guests start booking their trips — which for Christmas and Sundance is weeks ahead. A car that joins our co-hosting program in mid-January has already sat out the best dates of its year. A car listed in November catches the whole season: holidays, Sundance, and the February weekends.
What we handle in winter
Everything the season throws at a rental car happens at our lot at Park N' Jet - Mountain Lot, 2200 W North Temple, five minutes from the airport: guests land and take the free shuttle in, our team runs check-ins and check-outs with photo and video documentation, and between trips the car is cleaned, fueled, and reset — road salt and all. You get a monthly statement and payout; the goal we manage toward is $1,000–$2,000 per month per car, with winter as the season that carries it. The split and the full terms are in the co-host earnings guide.

Questions, answered
When does ski season demand peak in Utah?
Mid-December through February, with the sharpest stretch from just before Christmas into the first days of January, a second wave for Sundance in late January, and strong weekends through Presidents Day. Ski guests book those dates weeks ahead — which is why listing in November matters.
Does my car need AWD to earn in ski season?
AWD is what ski guests search for, and canyon trips can require it under Utah's traction law — AWD cars earn the premium. Front-wheel-drive cars still rent for airport and city trips in winter, but if your car is AWD, ski season is its best stretch of the year.
When should I list my car for ski season?
November or early December. Onboarding — inspection, photos, the listing, and the pricing calendar — takes a little time, and the season's richest dates are booked by guests weeks in advance. A car that joins in mid-January has already missed the peak it was listed for.
What does co-hosting cost during ski season?
The same as any season: no setup fee or monthly bill. After operating costs, cashflow splits 50/50 with our share capped at 30% of gross revenue, and a $150/month minimum per car. You stay responsible for ownership costs; we never cover an owner's car payment.
Have an AWD car that sits more than it drives?
Ski season is coming either way. Tell us about the car — 2016 or newer, under 70k miles, clean title — before the peak books out.
