Rent Out Your Car Privately in Salt Lake City

When most Utah owners hear "rent out your car," they think of one app. But there is a second channel: private rental through a local company's own booking site. Driver Valley co-hosts more than 85 cars in Salt Lake City, and every one of them can book directly on drivervalley.com — under our own rental agreements, with our team running the guests, the cleaning, and the airport handoffs — alongside Turo, not instead of it. The goal we manage toward is $1,000–$2,000 per month per car.

What private co-hosting actually is

Private co-hosting means your car earns from direct bookings, the same way a small local rental company rents its own fleet. A guest finds the car on drivervalley.com, books it, signs our rental agreement, and picks it up at our lot. There is no marketplace in the middle setting the terms — the deposit, the mileage allowance, and the paperwork are ours, and the guest relationship is direct. Our Turo co-hosting service runs the other channel; private co-hosting is the same operation pointed at our own storefront.

Why owners add the direct channel

Which channel earns more depends on the car and the season — we compare them honestly in Turo co-hosting vs. private rental in Utah.

How it works from our lot

Your car lives and works from Park N' Jet - Mountain Lot, 2200 W North Temple, five minutes from Salt Lake City airport. Guests take the free shuttle to the lot; our team runs check-in and check-out with photo and video documentation on every trip, then cleans, fuels, and resets the car for the next booking. You never meet a guest and never hand over a key. At month end you get one statement covering both channels — trips, gross revenue, operating costs, and your share — with the payout to match.

What it costs: the split, in plain terms

There is no setup fee and no monthly management bill. We earn only when your car earns: after the operating costs we pay out of pocket (cleaning, fuel, parking, supplies), the remaining cashflow splits 50/50 — and our share is capped at 30% of the car's gross revenue, so on a strong month the extra goes to you, not us. Every car also carries a $150/month minimum. You stay responsible for the ownership costs — a loan payment if you have one, insurance, and registration. We never take over or cover an owner's car payment. The full math is in our co-host earnings guide.

Which cars qualify

AWD SUVs, crossovers, and minivans do best in this market — see our guide to the best cars for Turo in Utah — but any car that meets the three boxes above is worth a conversation.

Questions, answered

What does it mean to rent my car out privately?

Your car is booked directly on drivervalley.com under Driver Valley's own rental agreements instead of only through a marketplace app. Guests book with us, sign our agreement, and pick the car up at our lot by SLC airport — while our co-hosting team handles pricing, screening, cleaning, and check-ins for you.

Do I need a Turo account for private co-hosting?

No. Driver Valley runs both channels: your car can earn from direct private bookings, from Turo, or from both at once. The calendars stay in sync and you get one monthly statement either way.

How much can I make renting my car out privately?

The goal we manage toward is $1,000–$2,000 per month per car. That is a goal, not a guarantee — actual results depend on the car, the season, and how available you keep it.

Who pays my car payment while the car is co-hosted?

You do. Ownership costs — a loan payment if you have one, insurance, and registration — stay with the owner. We never take over or cover an owner's car payment; our job is to make the car earn.

What cars qualify for private co-hosting?

Cars 2016 or newer, under 70,000 miles, with a clean title. AWD SUVs, crossovers, and minivans are the strongest earners in the Salt Lake City market.

Have a car that sits more than it drives?
